At the beginning of 1999 I opened my own business - a tattoo studio. After a couple of months I decided to grow as an entrepreneur and established a publishing house. One of the factors that encouraged me to that step was the lack of any press publications in Poland devoted to the tattoo art. Additionally, I was at that time preparing to defend my M.A. thesis entitled "Tattoo in art, art in tattoo" which concluded my studies at the Arts Institute of Cieszyn. My thesis supervisor was Bożena Ostrowska (now: Aleksander Ostrowski), then Assistant Professor in the Institute of Art. Having devoted so much time to researching the history and theories of tattoo art, I decided to make public use of my knowledge and publish the very first magazine on tattoo in Poland.
The first issue of "Tatuaż, Ciało i Sztuka" came out in April 2000. A year later it was published by a professional publishing house Kotrowers - which continues to do so.

Originally, Kontrowers was established solely to publish the magazine. Soon, however, its activities were broadened and in 2007 we issued the fist book: "Tatuaż" by Andrzej Jelski and a calendar. And there is more to come...
