2010 CALENDAR - Maori moko every day for the whole year!
Faces of tattooed Maori chiefs are the topic of all pictures presented in our newest calendar. They are all based on reproductions of Gottfried Lindauer (1839-1926), Czech-born painter who became known and well-respected in New Zealand's history because of his portraits, that for cultural experts are source of knowledge about XIXth century Maori people. All 12 illustrations come from James Cowan's book Pictures of Old New Zealand, The Partridge Collection of Maori Paintings by Gottfried Lindauer, Whitcombe & Tombs Limited, 1930. The book belongs to my collection, which's thematically grouped exhibits adorn pages of our calendar. While selecting illustrations for the entry page I used Victor R. Millard's book Portraits Of Tattooed Warrior Chiefs Of New Zealand, Auckland, N.Z., 1942 - for the pictures strip down the page, these are reproductions of pictures from Victor R. Millard's collection. On the top you can see a selection of few postcards from New Zealand's and Great Britain from the beginning of the XX century. Back cover presents four paintings of Gottfried Lindauer, the only reproductions in color I own in my collection. These are scans of four squared padded with velvet panels with pictures printed on it. I don't know where they come from and how old they are, but they look like they were made around the second half of the XX century. I hope you'll like the new calendar, just as you liked previous ones.

XIX w.
Wszystko to powinno ułatwić nam życie w nadchodzącym roku 2009.
